Tribal Earth Festival 2020

  • Laughton Lodge Common Lane Laughton, East Sussex BN8 6BY (map)

Tribal Earth is a very special festival that has been running for over 20 years and takes place this summer in Laughton, near Lewes, from 15 – 18 August.  Overlooking the stunning South Downs this 4-day family friendly camping festival is packed with all the things you would find at bigger events but for just 500 people. It really is one of Sussex’s secret jewels and so whether you are looking for great live music, relaxation, fun, inspirational workshops, singing, dance, maybe a therapy or massage, meditation, to meet new friends or hang out with old ones in a beautiful setting, Tribal Earth is a truly magical experience.

This year sees an eclectic line-up of bands and artists, and with over 30 acts playing on two stages there is something for everyone. If it’s a fun party you’re looking for then don’t miss Duncan Disorderly and the Scallywags on Saturday night at the Scallywag Party. Brought to you by Good Times Music they will be joined by Jimmy and the Riddles, Buddha Triangle, Snipit and the Hotrocks,  and Dryadic.  Plus you’ll find a fabulous mix of music from around the world throughout the festival including Zimbaremabwe, Captain Flatcap, Beatrice Everett, The Grimaldi Band, Sounds of Harlowe and so much more

Many Tribal Earth folk love the festival for its workshops and they run all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can start the morning with yoga, qi gong pranayama, kirtan, or laughter yoga. You can learn to play the kora (African harp) bodrhan  (Irish drum) the penny whistle or learn Irish Singing. If you want to get your body moving there are plenty of dance sessions too, Indian, African and Belly Dance. Or you join the incredible 5 Rhythms workshop where you will be guided through patterns, waves and rhythms of movement to still the mind and energise the body - backed by live music from aLive.

Drum circles have always been an exciting part of Tribal Earth. It’s a great way to connect to community through hypnotic and energetic rhythm and there are groups for beginners and seasoned djembe players alike. .

If you are looking to wind down, Tribal Earth is definitely the place to be. The wellbeing area offers a host of therapies from Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Acupuncture and Aromatherapy to Art Therapy. You can relax in the sound garden, chat or listen to musicians around the fire, do a bit of shopping at the many stalls, have a sauna or hot shower, eat sumptuous vegetarian food in the cafes, or immerse yourself in the Tribal Earth sound bath and let the vibrations of gongs, didgeridoo, Tibetan singing bowls and Tanpura wash over you.

Tribal Earth is the perfect festival to bring the kids as well with a professional run Kid’s Area that hosts fun games and activities that will keep them happy all day.

Tribal Earth is organised and run by a group of volunteers with all profits donated to The Clock Tower Sanctuary (Charity No 114677) supporting homeless young people in Brighton and Hove. Their mission is to prevent young people from becoming part of the long-term homeless in this area and reduce this sad and ever increasing situation. Their vision is that all homeless young people are encouraged, supported, challenged and inspired to develop their full potential and transform their lives.
