Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) 8-week course

  • The Open Door, Church Twitten (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Mindfulness is the quality of present-moment awareness, for example when are happily absorbed in a simple task, or pause to notice a beautiful sunset. In a way it is quite simple, but that doesn't mean it is easy to do! Most of us can benefit from training ourselves to be more fully present and focused, gradually learning this skill, through practice and with support from the mindfulness trainer and other, like-minded people on the course. The benefits of mindfulness practice are widely reported in the media, including the capacity to increase our wellbeing, calmness and clarity - and reducing stress, anxiety, low mood and likelihood of relapse into depression.

I initially learned mindfulness and meditation in a Buddhist context in the 1980's and have practiced regularly since that time. This practice has been the source of much creativity and joy throughout my adult life. I completed ordination training in Buddhist philosophy and practice in 1999, at which time I was given my Buddhist name 'Akasati'. Since then have regularly led meditation courses and retreats, initially within a Buddhist context and more recently leading secular mindfulness and compassion courses.

I have been practising mindfulness and meditation for over 35 years and have now taught over 30 8-week mindfulness courses. I am a member of the UK Mindfulness Network and am qualified to teach Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and alternate these two courses at The Open Door. I am also qualified to teach Mindfulness-based Compassionate Living (MBCL). Together with my colleague Dr Carolyn Drake and associate teacher Nicky Mouat, I run a Mindfulness teaching partnership 'Love Mindfulness'.

Vital Spirit Qigong

Vital Spirit Qigong Sessions

Vital Spirit Qigong (Jing Shen Qi Gong) an ancient Chinese spiritual way known as Internal Alchemy (Nei Dan) and Vitality Practice (Qi Gong). This holistic style of Qigong works with Yin-Yang, Three Treasures, Five Elements and Chinese Medicine.

This system of Internal Alchemy Qigong benefits body, mind and spirit: it rejuvenates, heals, transforms and develops your spiritual potential. Posture, movement, voicework and breathwork sequences are combined to connect to your and nature’s vital energy (Qi) which benefits your physical health and general well–being. Meditation, visualisation and attunement are used to experience and realise your integral spiritual reality (Jing Shen).

The aim of these fortnightly sessions is to access the spiritual, vital and essential resources you need. You also experience your inherent connection to the universe and nature which enriches your life and sense of wellness.

For 30 years I have studied and taught various styles of Qigong, including Daoist and Medical Qigong. I bring insights gained through the study of Classical Chinese language and philosophy, as well as 30-plus years practicing acupuncture.

Medicine Wheel Training, 1 Year Course, 2019 - 2020
Oct

to Oct 7

Medicine Wheel Training, 1 Year Course, 2019 - 2020

THE MEDICINE WHEEL 2019-20

Held over four separate weekends over one year, the Medicine Wheel is an initiation process handed down from the High Andes and the Q’ero nation that helps us to honour ourselves, as well as our friends, our families and our communities with all the light available to us. It is a beautiful and powerful journey around the four cardinal directions with the archetypes. This course honours our right as human beings to speak, write, hear and know the truth of our becoming. It will help us to see that death (or a transition) is an opportunity to grow on every level. This organizing principle helps us to see clearly through the darkness to find our way step by step as we listen to ourselves and to our unseen guides. We will help you to set your intention to clear all limiting behaviours and self-beliefs that hold you back from walking with beauty.

You will create a medicine bundle or Mesa of stones that you will be able to use on your journey to discover your hidden treasure, your true self.

Core tools we will be working with around the wheel will be: working as a circle, hucha (heaviness) release and calling in sami (light) to replace this, sand paintings, fire ceremony, shamanic journeying, experiential and creative exercises, dreaming our world into being, energetic tracking skills, a deep connection to Nature, Munay Ki rites, mini death rites.

TESTIMONIALS.

In structuring and running the Medicine Wheel sessions together, Ali and Marc achieve something extraordinary. They bring to the work a composed and assured authenticity, and a non-judgemental open-heartedness, that gently creates a space that is safe, yet filled with infinite potential. It’s a space that almost imperceptibly invites and entices everyone who joins the circle to embrace the Mythic, and to thereby experience the power of deep transformation which is available to us all, but with which we are normally so rarely able to engage.

Go through village past Post Office and then left at the first crossroads into Park Lane. Carry on for c.1 mile past the small industrial estate (if it is on your right) and wooden house on left. Go past the Estate and head up Park Lane for further 1/2 mile to a metal gate-barrier on the right. You’ll see a parking area, some concrete blocks and single lane track off on the right. You'll see Full Moon directions here. The gate will be unlocked though it will look closed. This is Vert Lane. Open the gate and make sure you pull the gate closed behind you.

Drive slowly up the track past 2 gates on the right to a third gate and a chip stack. Park here by reversing carefully in close to other vehicles. Don't go straying off on slopes - you might get stuck.. Walk through third gate (directions again) and south down the track. Walk down to the crossroads. Go straight ahead and you’ll see a wooden sticks signpost on the right marking the path to the main camp area. There will be lights showing the way. It's a 10 mins walk and be careful as it will be a little slippy in places.

Free Mindfulness Taster Session with Annie Akasati McAuley

  • The Open Door, Church Twitten (map)

New Pregnancy Yoga Class

New Pregnancy Yoga Class

I have been practising yoga since 1997 and teaching since 2000. I specialise in applying fluid, functional asana (poses), pranayama (breathwork) and yoga nidra (embodied meditation) to all areas of women’s lives: fertility and conception, menstrual health, pregnancy, birth preparation, postnatal recovery and the later postnatal phases, and the menopause and beyond.

I teach classes, workshops and private sessions to women and their partners, and teach and advise on my areas of expertise on yoga training courses. I also run bespoke training courses and mentorships (increasingly online). I have trained with the major providers of women’s yoga that I consider to offer sensitive, ethical, clear ways of approaching the female body (the Active Birth Centre with whom I completed an extensive apprenticeship, Birthlight, Womb Yoga and the Yoga Nidra Network), and this has intersected with my many years of daily practice to allow me to offer individualised teaching within a group setting.

I’m delighted to be teaching a new pregnancy/active birth yoga class at the Open Door, and look forward to sharing practical techniques to navigate the demands and delights of parenthood in ways that honour the wisdom of the female body, yoga’s traditions, and modern knowledge.

Drop in £15, block of 5 (to use within 6 weeks) £70

Vital Spirit Qigong Workshop

  • Events Room, Open Door, Church Twitten (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Vital Spirit Qigong is based on the ancient Daoist system of Internal Alchemy. In this

workshop we’ll focus on the classical Chinese notion of the Fire Element which relates to our

heart (Xin), spirit (Shen) and heaven (Tian).

Through meditation, visualisation, reflection and attunement practices we’ll engage with and

experience our spirit. By connecting to its heavenly reality, spiritual qualities such as

harmony, tranquillity, beauty, empathy and unity can pervade our heart. This leads to

increased personal and spiritual wellbeing, even a sense of oneness with all life (Dao).

As with all Vital Spirit Qigong events, we’ll work with sequences and practices to replenish

our energy and increase our vitality. We’ll also include Medical Qigong to heal our body.

Using specific postures, sounds, movements and breathwork we will improve our health and

overall wellness.

Amadis has practiced and taught Acupuncture since the 1986 and Qigong since 1990.

Nearly forty years study of Classical Chinese Medicine and spirituality informs and enriches

his teaching.

COST: £45 for the day. Concessionary rate available.

Nature Meditations: Deepening into the heart of the Elements Retreat

‘When we pay attention to Nature’s music - we find that everything on the Earth contributes to it’s harmony’ Hazrat Inayat Khan

Nature is constantly speaking to us …. if we listen to it’s rhythm, it will bring us back to what is most essential and real within us. The Universe, nature, and our own being are made of the elements Earth, Water, fire, Air and Ether. When we deepen into these powerful energies, we understand ourselves and our essence, and come to know ourselves through the divine qualities manifesting within them.

Through meditation, dance, sacred ritual and contemplative time in nature, this weekend retreat will provide an opportunity to go more deeply within. By so doing, you have a greater capacity to accept yourself as you are, whilst simultaneously opening up to qualities or aspects you may not have been aware of in yourself.

The retreat is led by Marie-Helene Dalila-Boyle (Farzana) and Kim Paumier (Noor Alima), located in east Sussex (highwealdretreatcentre.com).

Family Constellation Workshop

Constellations are a powerful way to bring to light hidden dynamics and forces that unconsciously shape our lives.

Working systemically gives people an opportunity to see themselves in their personal or working lives within a much wider context than that which we are accustomed to thinking. By witnessing this work and finding our better place in a system we are able to create new energies and possibilities for movement where things were previously stuck.

The work made a dramatic difference to my life, which is what led me to train in this way of working. I wholeheartedly believe the more we can pay attention to ourselves and our own blind spots the more we can build peace in the world.
